I've been interested in origami from time to time. On this page I'll post my models and links to interesting resources.

Icarus Falling Down

    Historic perspective...

According to the greek legend, Daedalus (great engineer of the ancient) was required by king Minos of Crete to build a labyrinth where enclose his monstrous son the Minotaur. After the Minotaur was slain by Theseus with the help of Daedalus, king Minos shut him and his son Icarus into the empty labyrinth. Then Daedalus buil up a set of wings for him and his son using wax and feathers and they scaped flying...

Several years ago I found a wonderful model of a winged Daedalus of outstanding plasticity. The diagram dates from 1981 and was drawn by Gabriel Alvarez for a book on mythical creatures. I only own a digital copy from this remote page.

The young Icarus flies too close to the Sun and the wax of his wings start melting. Neglecting the advices of his father he flies higher and higher until wis wings disappear.

After folding Daedalus I felt the urge of folding a poetical tragic vision of his son Icarus. Some months later I draw this diagram (my first and last for a very long time) copying the main part from the original Daedalus. I've used Corel Draw 12 which seems quite suitable for this work.
Note: If you want to fold Daedalus just ignore the steps 14-42, fold another wing like in 56-67 and tune the final result as you wish.
